Stuff !

I watched BridesHead Revisited this week it was awful , I usually like movies set back in time and all that but this was so boring and stupid.

We watched The Express last night it's the true story of Ernie Davis who was the first black man to win the Heisman ! It was really good , I love movies based on true events !

I don't know about you ,but when I watch movies about this country back in the 40's-60's I think OMG if those people are still alive aren't they embarrassed about how they acted ? I get so sickened to see how crazy the white people were and how badly they treated black people .

When I was little I lived in a very small town and there wasn't any black families there, but I also never seen or heard any of the adults talking about them in any way. When I was 15 I moved to a different town to live on my own and in that town there were black families and I went to school with lots of black kids . I still never heard anyone say bad things about them, one of the most popular and good looking guys in school was a black guy.

It just so happened that my high school boyfriend and this guy were really good friends , so he was at my house all the time and we became very good friends and he's the only person that I went to school with that I still talk to. His dad was white and he just got married to a white girl and they are having their first baby in July a couple weeks before me.

I never once seen anyone say in school anything mean to him because he was black ,and nobody ever picked on him that he dated lots of rich cute white girls and anyone that met him always really liked him. My oldest was really close friends with a little black girl that lived two streets over and she would come to my house all the time to play. I never thought anything of it, I have always taught my kids to be nice to anyone that is nice to you whether they are black , chinese, mexican or purple with green hair !

Maybe I feel this way because of where I grew up and that's how everyone was or maybe because I think that's how all people should be so I teach my kids to be that way...who knows . I just know that it makes me feel so sick when I watch the things that went on around here back in the day and yes even today that kind of thing still happens whether people want to admit it or not !

So let me ask you, do your kids go to school with any kids of a different race and do they be friends with them? Does your kid ever witness others picking on those kids ? I'm just wondering if things are really alot better now then they were back then or is it the same ,but kept behind closed doors ?

I realize some people just happen to live in a place that doesn't really have a bunch of other races living there, but would you care if a family moved in next door to you that didn't look like you and everyone else on your street ?

I guess since I was watching that movie last night and maybe a little because I'm pregnant and very emotional , it just made me think of all those things and wonder. I do know though that sometimes it's the other way around and someone will choose to not be around you or read your blog because you are white . I think that is wrong too ! To me just because someone looks different then you do doesn't mean you can't find things in common, and when you are a mom and raising your kids no matter the color they still all do the same crazy kid things !

There is still racism in our area, not as bad as Southern Arkansas but its here. Im originally from Southern California. I had friends of ALL races. my kids have friends of all races and my kids are 1/4 Asian with a Spanish descent last name. The ignorance can run pretty deep. I've heard old men put down Yanks. You know. the people from the North during the civil war!!! yeah, wth. My dad is from the north, my Mom is from the south. I must be in deep shit here, LOL!
all that said, we have been very lucky at our school. the kids are very accepting. Idk if the parents or grandparents are but the kids are.

My situation is a bit different from yours in that I grew up and was in the minority. I experienced a bit of what some might call "reverse racism" but it formed who I am today and since the culture outside of my home was prodominantly black, I learned a lot. I do worry about my kids a bit because now that we live out in the country, they don't get to experience different cultures like I did and I want them to be well rounded. I have a huge job ahead of me.
